Contact lenses make everyday life easier because they give you freedom, whether you wear them every day or just occasionally.

Fittings

We have different types of contact lenses.

Before you can enjoy the convenience that contact lenses offer, you first need to know which type of contact lenses you need. We offer standard corrective lenses, toric lenses, and even multifocal lenses. You can also choose whether you want daily or monthly lenses.

How does an eye exam for contact lenses work at Buena Vista Optics?

01
Intake

First, we gather some important details about you and your eyes. This includes your name, age, and any eye problems you may have. We also ask about your health and vision history to better understand what your eyes need.

02
Vision Testing

Next, we check how well you can see. This involves looking at a chart with letters or pictures from a distance. This helps us figure out if contact lenses are needed and which type will work best.

03
Fitting

After checking your vision, we help choose the right contact lenses that fit comfortably. The lenses will be carefully selected to ensure they are the best fit for your eyes.

04
Lens Instruction

If you decide to wear contact lenses, we show you how to put them in and take them out safely. We also explain how to clean and take care of them, so they stay in good condition.

05
Check-Up

Once you start wearing your contact lenses, we have a check-up to make sure they’re working well. We ask how you feel with the lenses and check your vision again to ensure the fit is right.

06
Follow-Up & Final Lenses

After the check-up, we talk about any changes that may be needed. If everything feels good, we give you your final contact lenses. We will make sure the lenses fit perfectly and help you see clearly again with the ease of your new contact lenses.

It is also very important to have regular lens check up at least twice a year to avoid medical problems to the eyes.

01
Two separate appointments for glasses and contact lenses

I recently had an eye exam, and when I said I wanted contact lenses, the optician made a new appointment for me. Should I be worried?

No, it is normal to have two separate appointments. The first exam checks if you need glasses or contact lenses and what the right prescription should be. The contact lens appointment is different. The optician will check your prescription again, and also see if your eyes are suitable for contact lenses and which type fits your lifestyle.

02
Can I wear contact lenses if I have never worn glasses?

Yes, it is possible to wear contact lenses without ever using glasses. In very rare cases, contact lenses may not be suitable, but your optician will help you find the best option. However, it is always a good idea to have a pair of glasses as a backup for times when you're not wearing contact lenses, such as when you have irritated eyes, a cold, or the flu.

03
Why can't I use my glasses prescription for contact lenses?

You usually need two different prescriptions for glasses and contact lenses because they work differently with the eyes. Contact lenses sit directly on the eye, while glasses are farther away. Because of this, the prescription for contact lenses can be different. The contact lens prescription also includes more details about the shape and material of the lenses that fit your eyes exactly.

04
Am I too old to wear contact lenses?

No, there is no age limit for wearing contact lenses. What matters is your prescription and the health of your eyes. As we get older, our eyes can become drier, which may cause discomfort. There are special contact lenses for dry eyes. If you want to try contact lenses, talk to your optician who will recommend the best lenses for your age and needs.
